Guideline for coding of continuing care and geriatric care

02.02.2026

Due to a technical deficiency in the technical implementation of Decree No. 531/2023 Coll. with effect from 1 January 2026, the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic has encountered technical deficiencies that negatively affect the inclusion of classification cases in the medical services of after-treatment care and geriatric care. The Ministry of Health records the assignment of classification cases to all medical services of the classification case, including those determined by the markers in Annex 15a, therefore it is necessary to code correctly the classification cases with these markers in order to have a correct evaluation of inpatient health care for 2026.

However, in order to ensure correct reporting to the health insurance company and to safely classify cases also in the area of aftercare and geriatric care, to markers:

  • mBTI, which specifies medical service S25-05 Care of the geriatric patient,
  • mDOL, which specifies the medical service S46-01 Nursing care,

the mOSN marker must be reported, the value of the "anams" marker, which although will classify the case in the medical service S98-01, but in combination with the mDOL or mBTI markers will be indicators that they should have been included in the after-treatment care and geriatric care (the coder, however, will not see the above, due to incorrectly technically set decree, but the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic will register the above and at the same time health insurance companies will also be able to filter the above care by this combination). This will be described in the next edition of the Marker Codebook.
