To cover the cost of this non-contractual health care (provided at a higher level than the hospital is authorized to provide, in a medically justified case), is it sufficient to include a note in the medical report stating that this was discussed (by phone) with a higher-level facility?

Answer

Annex 3 in the neonatology programme at point 11 states the following: "In situations where the risks of transporting a neonate to a higher level facility outweigh the expected benefits, care for the neonate may be provided at a level below the medical service classification in consultation with the higher level facility." The experts consider this to be correctly stated, and the implication is that this is a telephone communication.
